Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
The police have arrested two fraudsters after uncovering a gang operating fake call centers in Howrah, involved in fraudulent activities. The arrests were made in Baguiati, Kolkata, following an investigation by the Cyber Crime Police and Detective Police. The gang, which opened these bogus call centers, has defrauded victims of significant amounts of money. So far, the police have recovered around Rs 5 lakh, along with several checkbooks, credit and debit cards, routers, mobile phones, and other items from the accused.
The case came to light last August when a victim filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime Police Station of Howrah City Police, claiming he had been cheated out of Rs 58 lakh. Based on his complaint, the investigation began, leading to the recent arrests. The Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and Deputy Commissioner (DC) North stated during a press conference that efforts are ongoing to recover the remaining stolen funds. The investigation continues as authorities work to uncover further details about the gang's operations.
